Sadie Ann Burns

Sadie Ann Burns, known as “Aunt Sadie,” daughter of the late Thomas Alexander Burns and the late Ida Mae (Kerlin) Burns was born on November 24, 1952, in Shamokin, Pennsylvania. Sadie worked for Marriott for more than 40 years, where her dedication and warm spirit touched countless lives. During her career, she formed a lifelong friendship with Seca Iriskic, her work sister and cherished friend, who shared in many years of laughter, loyalty, and love. Sadie had a vibrant personality — she told it like it was, never one to bite her tongue! She loved Disney movies, crime dramas, traveling, and shopping trips to Sam’s Club. Her laughter, her generosity, and her larger-than-life personality filled every room she entered. Sadie was the rock of her family, always showing up for her children and grandchildren, no matter the circumstance. On Friday, October 17, 2025, Sadie departed this life in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, surrounded by the love of her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Sarah, Linda, Jane, Elmina, Carolyn, Ida, Thomas, and John Burney Jr., as well as her beloved companion, Dale Warren. Sadie leaves to cherish her memory her children, Gina Irvin (Gary), Shawn Burns (Crystal), and Maurice Burns (Mary). Her grandchildren, who fondly called her "Grandma Sadie," were her pride and joy; Jonya Straining, Shayla Burns Layton, Johnny Straining Jr., Shaineece (Addie) Reid, Maurice Burns Jr., Michael Burns, Kenaya Irvin, Marquis Burns, Garaya Irving, Monay Burns, Keimari Watlington, and Shawmonee Eiland. She was also blessed with 12 beautiful great-grandchildren, each bringing her endless happiness. Her beloved brothers and sisters—by blood and heart—include Martina Jasiewicz, Patricia Williams, Bonita Blackstone, David Burney, Nanette Burney-Mitchell, Keith Burney Sr., Anthony Samuels, Tammy Templin, Suzanne Peckne, Janet Parker, Tina Shuey, John, Jeffrey, Robert, Joseph, and Raymond Burns. Each held a special place in her heart and shared a bond of love beyond family ties. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, and cousins, along with a very special niece, Jondre. She leaves behind her “bonus family,” affectionately called The Blacks, which includes Cheryl, who was always ready to provide love and support. She also had a strong sisterly bond with Carol Warren, her sister-in-law and lifelong friend, whose love and loyalty remained steadfast. To know Sadie was to love her — she was honest, funny, strong, and deeply devoted to her family. Though she has transitioned, her light, love, and laughter will forever live on in all who knew her.
