Pauline Bailey

Pauline Bailey, the eldest of nine siblings, was born Friday, March 13, 1936, in Hamilton, GA, to the late Horace and Pollie Hudson. In her formative years, she was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church, as well as the Friendship Baptist Church where she gave her life to Christ. Most recently, she was a member of Upon This Rock Worship Center. In 1956, she left her home in Georgia to move to Harrisburg, PA, to live with her Aunt Idora Taylor. In Harrisburg, she began a career in the hospitality industry working for Penn Harris Hotel where she developed several lifelong friendships including her husband of sixty years, Jack Bailey. Their union resulted in five children, Michael, Kelvin, Jacqueline, Steven and Stanley. Pauline supported her husband and children as a homemaker for many years. Later, she worked part-time for the Harrisburg City School District preparing lunches for students attending Woodward Elementary School. In the year 2000, Pauline retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of General Services, after twenty years of service. During her tenure she received several commendations for her stellar work. As a retiree, Pauline spent most of her time at home enjoying her family, especially her grandchildren. She had an avid love of sports often watching and/or attending just about any type of sporting event. Her favorite teams were generally from the south including the University of Georgia and the Miami Dolphins. She also enjoyed watching game shows. Her favorites were “Let’s Make a Deal,” “The Price is Right,” “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy.” She especially got a kick out of “Family Feud” with her favorite comedic host Steve Harvey. As much as she enjoyed those activities, nothing was more important than family, and Pauline undoubtedly loved her family more than anything. As well, she showed unconditional love to everyone she came in contact with never having a bad word to say about anyone. In addition, she was always there to listen to the concerns of others gently imparting her wisdom while reassuring them that everything would work out. That was always her “special gift.” Pauline peacefully transitioned from this life to her heavenly home on Friday, November 11, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents Horace and Pollie Hudson; her brother, Horace Hudson Jr.; and her sister, Evelyn Smith. She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Jack Bailey; her loving daughter, Jacqueline Bailey Mills (Rodney); her sons, Michael Bailey, Kelvin Bailey (Robyn), Steven Bailey (Sherron) and Stanley Bailey; her grandchildren, Trystin Bailey (Madoc), Siddell Bailey, Jaren Bailey (Amanda), Danielle Bailey, Jakar Mills, Jairus Mills, Raven Mills, Evan Bailey and Brooke Bailey; her two precious great-granddaughters who she affectionately called her “Sugar Lumps,” Laine and Lana Bailey; her brothers, Willie Alfred Hudson, Herman Hudson and Clinton Hudson; her sisters, Marion Bridges, Mary Jo Gaston and Lillian Owens; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
