Maggie M. Walker Maggie Mae “Sang” Walker, 95, of Harrisburg, PA, passed peacefully away into God’s Hands on Friday, November 22, 2013, while at the Harrisburg Hospital surrounded by her family. Born March 8, 1918, in Pavo, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Cora (Strickland) and Frank Manning. She had one sister and seven brothers. After migrating north, she married Milton Walker in 1944. They made their home in Harrisburg, and raised five children, three girls and two boys. Maggie, affectionately known to many as “Sang” or “Nana,” was a dedicated wife, involved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She was a wonderful example of unwavering faith, sustainable hope and unconditional love. Maggie will forever be remembered as the family’s true matriarch, setting a legacy of steadfast commitment, honor and loyalty. Family and friends were Maggie’s genuine joy. She previously took great pleasure in hosting family Sunday dinners. Her signature fried chicken and peach cobbler, pies and cakes were among the family’s favorites. Maggie could often be found sitting on her porch conversing with neighbors and displaying a warm smile to all who passed by. Many were touched by Maggie’s gentle, quiet, dignified spirit and kind-heartedness. She was an active longtime member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church for over sixty years and had a strong commitment to her faith. Maggie truly loved the Lord and had a liking for old hymns and gospel spirituals. Crocheting, gardening, cooking and watching television, specifically, the game show network and the cooking channel were all among her hobbies and pastimes. Maggie also acquired a love of traveling and, especially, enjoyed visiting her grandchildren. Maggie lived a full active life, stunning many who learned of her age. She is survived by her daughter, Christine Stockton and her husband David of Harrisburg; her son, Milton Walker III and wife Evelyn of Reading, PA; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Williams of Harrisburg; her brother, James Manning and wife Althea of Harrisburg; her caretaker granddaughter, Natalie Richard of Harrisburg; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Maggie was preceded in death by her wonderful husband of sixty-one years, Milton Walker; her son, Leon Williams; and two daughters, Lena Mae Polk and Yvonne Richard. Her presence will surely be missed; however, let us be comforted by knowing that she has undoubtedly earned her crown. In All Things, We Give Thanks!
