Deacon James A. Mosby Sr.

Deacon James A. Mosby, Sr., of Ridge Street, Steelton, passed from labor to reward on May 18, 2010. He was born May 10, 1919 in Naola, VA, son of the late Edward and Sally Mosby. He was a World War II Army Veteran and retired from Bethlehem Steel Corporation after 40 years of service. As a member of The First Baptist Church of Steelton for 67 years, he served faithfully as past Chairman of the Trustee and Deacon Ministries, Church Council, Teacher of New Members Class, Member of Missionaries, Charles Donahue Male Chorus, Senior Citizens and Laymen’s League Ministries, Trustee of Camp Central Baptist Association and numerous other committees. His civic and community affiliations included NAACP, Borough of Steelton Senior Citizens, Block Captain of Steelton Crime Watch Association, driver and delivery person for Meals on Wheels, and member of the Hygienic No. 7 Fire and Rescue Company. Leisurely he enjoyed visiting, praying and sharing “The Word” with the sick and shut-in’s, gardening and walking. Deacon Mosby was predeceased by his first wife, Elizabeth Mosby; stepson, Samuel “Colyan” Robinson and stepdaughter, Elaine Kershaw. He leaves to honor his legacy his devoted wife, Florence G. Mosby; his loving children, Yvonne Harvey of Harrisburg, Theresa Chisholm (James) of Steelton, Elwood Miller (Dell) of New Rochelle, NY, James Mosby, Jr., (Eloise) of Harrisburg, Charles Mosby (Carmen) of Mitchellville, MD, Joyce Spivey (John) of Harrisburg, Carolyn Selvey (Samuel) of Harrisburg, Leon Mosby (Dorothy) of Montgomery, AL, Marilyn “Gail” Hughes of Harrisburg, Wayne Mosby (Denise) of Harrisburg; his loving stepchildren, Patricia Roberts of Las Vegas, NV, William Robinson of Albany, NY, D. Jackie Robinson (Rev. Thommie) of Steelton, Terry Robinson of Harrisburg; sister, Bernice Thomas of Monroe, VA; 25 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; 20 step grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Deacon Mosby’s Life will be celebrated at 12 noon, Saturday, May 22, 2010, at his church, 1850 S. 19th Street, Harrisburg, with viewing from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Interment will be at William Howard Day Cemetery.
