Cornelius Futrell

Cornelius Futrell, affectionately known as “Cornel,” was born on Monday, April 4, 1950, to the late Estelle “Essie” (Roy) Sweet. She received her education in the Harrisburg School District and proudly graduated from John Harris High School, Class of 1969. Cornel dedicated 35 years of her life to serving others through her work at various nursing facilities across the region. Caregiving was not merely her profession, but her calling. Her work ethic was impeccable, and she consistently went above and beyond for those in her care. She earned numerous awards and recognitions for her service, and her patients loved her dearly. She had a gift for making people feel seen, valued, and comforted, and she gave her all to every person she touched. A woman of unwavering faith, Cornel was a devoted member of Deliverance House of Praise Ministries, where she was nurtured spiritually and built lasting connections with her church family. She would want to be remembered as a caring, giving woman whom everyone could depend on. To her family, she was a wonderful mother, the best grandmother, and the favorite aunt; her nieces and nephews were like her own children. Cornel had a deep love for music and family gatherings. She loved to dance, enjoyed good company, and live life. Her favorite hobby was playing bingo, where her competitive but fun-loving spirit always shined. Cornel was known for her honesty; she didn’t hesitate to put you in your place when needed, and she was lovingly famous for “telling anybody off.” Even so, her heart was enormous, and she protected and loved her family with everything in her. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and her sons were her universe. You couldn’t tell her a thing about them; her love for them was unmatched. In her final years, months, and days, Cornel found tremendous joy in spending time with her beloved “sidekick,” her youngest great-granddaughter, Halo, whom she adored beyond words. Their bond brought Cornel comfort, laughter, and peace. On Monday, November 24, 2025, at seventy-five years of age, Cornel peacefully departed this life in the comfort of her home, surrounded by love and the memories she cherished most. Along with her mother, she was preceded in death by her sons, Nathaniel Ramsey and Emanuel Ramsey; her grandson, Anthony Ramsey Jr.; her sisters, Cynthia Lyles, Madeline Jones, Joyce Ross; and her brothers, Charles Sweet and Theodus “Poncho” Sweet. She leaves to celebrate and forever cherish her memory, her sons, Anthony Ramsey Sr. and Lester Ramsey; her Daughters-in-Law, Chantel Motes and Markeva Ramsey; her brothers, Willie Sweet and Anthony Sweet; eight grandsons and one granddaughter; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will forever cherish her love, her strength, and her unforgettable spirit.
