Alfred J. Allen

Alfred J. Allen Sr., son of the late William “Doggie” Jackson and Willie Mae Gantt Allen, was born on Wednesday, April 20, 1949, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Alfred received his education in the Harrisburg Public School System and graduated from William Penn High School (Tigers). He then served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He later continued his studies at Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC), where he was active in the Black Student Union. He was also a member of the Veterans Center, where he found fellowship with fellow servicemen. Throughout his career, Alfred was recognized for his dedication and dependability. He served faithfully in various positions, including the United States Post Office in Harrisburg, PA, the New Cumberland Army Depot, Leesway Transportation, and Jobs Tavern. Alfred occasionally attended Emmanuel Church of God in Christ and Family of God Church of God in Christ, maintaining a quiet but steady faith. In his leisure, he enjoyed listening to jazz, cheering for his favorite team, the New York Jets, and trying his luck with scratch-off tickets; hobbies that brought him great joy and relaxation. On Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the age of seventy-six, Alfred peacefully transitioned from time to eternity while at his home, surrounded by the love of his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Cecil Allen. He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife, Judith “Penny” Allen; his sons, Ahmad Collins (Nicole), Yadin Collins (Brianne), and Alfred J. Allen Jr.; his daughter, Aanyae L. Gamble-Allen; his stepdaughter, Terece Cyrus; his brother, Marvin Allen (Claudette); his sisters, Edith Bullock and Loretta Allen; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
