Delores Moore

Delores Moore, daughter of the late Odell Davis and the late Mary Ann Lyles, was born Monday, April 12, 1937, in Harrisburg, PA. Delores graduated from the former William Penn High School. Her husband, Deacon Edgar Moore, and their children were near and dear to her heart. Lovingly known as “Mother Dear” by her family, Delores was a devoted homemaker as well as a devoted babysitter for over twenty years. She loved caring for children as if they were her own. She also cared for her sons’ friends, Felt, Banks, Pops, Stew, Clea and Bob Hume, to name a few, always making sure they had plenty to eat and even making their favorite foods. Delores was united in Christian fellowship with Goodwin Memorial Baptist Church where she served with numerous ministries including the Nursery Ministry. She was the first in the Moore Family to join Goodwin. Her steadfast faith, love and devotion to her church led her children and her husband to join. Among her pastimes were playing board games, cards, BINGO or just hanging out. Delores also loved spending time with her siblings, long phone conversations with family and friends, decorating for the holidays, especially Christmas, cooking, going out to eat at her favorite restaurant, Hoss’s, watching movies and listening to the music of her favorite artists, Al Green, R. Kelly, Lionel Richie and James Cleveland. Delores and her husband supported the Harrisburg Cougars. She was a member of the Cougar Club which raised money for the student athletes. During track season, everyone looked forward to her fried chicken which she made for the State and District Track Meets. On Wednesday, June 15, 2022, Delores transitioned from time to eternity joining her parents; her husband, Deacon Edgar Lee Moore Jr.; daughter, Valerie D. Moore-Patterson; and her sister, Mercedes Washington. Delores leaves a legacy of love, faith and commitment to be honored and cherished by three sons, Keith Moore (Ruth), Stephen Moore (Bonita) and Lionel Moore, all of Harrisburg, PA; two daughters, Joyce Moore of Harrisburg, and Tanita Brockenbrough (David) of Dover, DE; four siblings, Anna Jackson, Melvin Davis (Betty), Thelma Stevens (Theo) and Calvin Lyles, all of Harrisburg; thirteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, other family members and friends.
