Allen Mosten So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? I Corinthians 15:54-55 Allen Mosten, known as ‘Moss,’ and ‘Big Al,’ was born Thursday, February 1, 1940, in McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania, son of the late David Lane and Cora Mosten. He received his formal education in the Harrisburg Public School System and graduated from William Penn High School, Class of 1959. After graduating from high school, Allen attended Bloomsburg University on a football scholarship. Allen retired from Mobil Oil Corporation in 2000 as a plant operator and truck driver. He was a faithful member of the John Paul Scott Community Church where he served on the Men’s Usher Board. Allen enjoyed helping others, listening to music, staying in contact with friends, spending quality time with his family, watching sports, and, most of all, spending endless hours with his beloved granddaughter Diana, who affectionately called him “Nonno.” Allen loved people and people loved Allen just the same. He was a one-of-a-kind gentleman whose genuine sincerity touched so many lives in so many ways. In his seventy-third year, while in the Harrisburg Hospital with his immediate family and companion by his side, Allen peacefully passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2013. Allen was the widower of Diana S. Mosten. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Chuck Davis and Douglas Mosten, both of Harrisburg, PA. Surviving to cherish many special memories are his daughter and son-in-law, Vicki Mosten and Richard Jones; son, Gregory A. Mosten Jr.; sister, Olivia Diane Buardell; special niece, Stephanie Mosten; granddaughter, Diana Mosten, all of Harrisburg; the last two of The Magnificent Seven, John Hollins of Harrisburg and Charles Plant of Georgia; nieces, nephews, cousins; and companion, Mary Louise Graves of Harrisburg.
