Deacon Wilbert White

Wilbert White was born in Collinsville, MS, on Sunday, May 22, 1932, the third child to the late Leman and Eletha (Lewis) White. Wilbert proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. His dedication and commitment to his country were unwavering. After his military service, he married the love-of-his-life, Marcielean Davis of Collinsville, MS, on June 1, 1955. Wilbert was a dedicated servant of God. He was called into the Deaconate Ministry in 1964, at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Collinsville, MS. He faithfully served in the Deacon Ministry for more than sixty years. In 1968, Deacon White moved his family to Harrisburg, PA. Together they became faithful members of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, and also together were employed by Hershey Foods Corporation. After twenty-seven years of “chocolate,” he and his wife decided to retire together. Once retired, he enjoyed serving his community by working with Meals on Wheels for many, many years. Deacon White was a devout worshipper and a founding member of the HOPE Community Baptist Church. In 2015, together with his wife, they united in Christian fellowship with the Goodwin Memorial Baptist Church. As his health declined, he still wanted to worship with his church family. It brought joy to his heart whenever members would come to his home to serve communion or just to sit for a spell. On Saturday, August 5, 2023, at his Harrisburg home, Deacon White peacefully passed away at ninety-one years of age. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward, Prentiss and Jasper White. Deacon Wilbert White is survived by his loving wife of sixty-eight years, Marcielean White, and their four children, Patricia Ann (Milton) Woods of Austin, TX, Reverend Wilbert DeWayne of Phoenix, AZ, Angela Denise of Harrisburg, PA, and Sheila (Darryl) Grayson of Springfield, OH. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Deacon White will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his commitment to serving God and his dedication to his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
