Veronica Sheree Purdy

Veronica Sheree Purdy, better known as “Ronnie” to family and friends, was born Tuesday, June 12, 1956, in Harrisburg, PA, to the late Pearl Mae Purdy. Educated in the Harrisburg School District, Veronica Purdy graduated from John Harris High School, Class of 1974. She ran track and was a lifeguard. After forty years of service, Veronica Purdy retired from the Reese’s Candy Factory, Hershey, PA. She was a member of United Baptist Church, Harrisburg, where she was known for making her delicious macaroni and cheese for many church events. She loved the Lord and playing the tambourine. Veronica Purdy was a very stylish lady who took great pride in her appearance and was known for her sharp style of dressing. She never went anywhere out of place. Her hair was always intact, and she was always “dressed to impress.” She was very outspoken and a no-nonsense kind of lady who told things like they were. Although she had a quiet demeanor and spirit, she wasn’t one to bite her tongue or dance with words. She said what she said and meant what she said. She was truly a fighter, and she participated in the Breast Cancer Walk every year. Although she was very to-the-point, what she said and did was in love. She loved and adored her family and friends and was there for them in their times of need. In her leisure time, Veronica Purdy loved the company of her daughter and three grandsons. She would spend hours at her daughter’s home watching movies or TV, listening to music and dancing, and boy could she dance. They cooked many meals together including all the ones for the holidays. She loved to play “Candy Crush” on her phone and sometimes browsed Facebook. She loved to decorate; her home was proof of that. She loved going on vacations and was an avid shopper evidenced by the amount of clothes she owned. She enjoyed dining out with family and friends. She frequently dined with her church family on Sundays after church. She was a DIVA in her own right and enjoyed the finer things in life. She was a beautiful soul inside and out, and her love and presence will truly be missed. However, her legacy will live forever throughout the many lives she touched. While at her sister’s home on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, Veronica Purdy unexpectedly transitioned exchanging mortality for immortality at sixty-seven years of age. She was preceded in death by her mother, Pearl Mae Purdy; her brother, Harrison Purdy; grandmother, Mary Purdy; aunts, Renee Purdy and Deborah Purdy; and goddaughter, Sheena Eubanks. Veronica Purdy leaves to celebrate her life and legacy her one and only devoted daughter, Shamika McKay (James); her three grandsons, Braylyn, Bryson and Brenton McKay; brother, Ronald Purdy (Carol); sisters, Charlene Britton, Yvonne Purdy and Sharon Horne (Tracy), all of Harrisburg, PA; her aunt, Mary Aikens (Robert) of York, PA; goddaughters, Chiffona Thompson, Atlanta, GA, Lakiesha Watson (Rashad), Tashi Lulen, Harrisburg, PA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Blessed are those who shared Veronica Purdy’s journey. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Veronica, we will forever love, cherish and miss you. We thank God for sending you to us, but we are certain you are resting in his peace.
