Mr. Robert E. Bowman

Robert (Bobby) Bowman was born Thursday, March 1, 1951, in Harrisburg, PA, to the late Robert E. Polk and Janet Bowman. Bobby received his wings and went on to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, May 14, 2019. Bobby grew up in Harrisburg, PA, and graduated from John Harris High School, Class of 1971. After graduation, Bobby moved to Rochester, NY, and attended Rochester Community College. Bobby also attended Harrisburg Area Community College and Sacramento City College. Bobby used his love of mentoring young males to develop a career in the criminal justice field, specifically mentoring young Black males. Bobby was previously employed by Dauphin County Prison and Schaffner Detention Center before spending his remaining career employed by the Commonwealth of PA, Loysville Detention Center. Bobby was a longstanding member of AFSCME, Local 2137. He loved spending time with his family and playing and teaching the game of chess to anyone who was interested. He loved staying abreast of current events, watching movies, especially horror movies and shows, and sports, especially his beloved Philadelphia Eagles. During his last few years, he took extra pride and joy in spending time with his great-grandchildren. Bobby loved his jazz music, but also his Tupac. He loved his family gatherings with a good game of dominoes or cards, dancing, laughter and traveling to his favorite casinos. Bobby also loved his band of brothers and cherished their quality time together. Bobby joined Harris AME Zion Church under the direction of Rev. Donald Brantley. He then followed Rev. Brantley to New Anointed Christian Fellowship Ministries where he loved sitting in the front listening to the choir and Mr. Fordham play the piano. Bobby was preceded in death by his mother, Janet Bowman-Polk; father, Robert E. Polk; stepmother, Lena Mae Polk; maternal grandparents, Stella Mae Hardin and John Bowman; paternal grandmother, Lillie Baltimore; and father-in-law, Lucius Durant. Bobby was also preceded in death by his special brothers, Barry Scott and Richard Johnson. Bobby leaves to cherish his memory and continue his legacy, his loving, devoted wife and caregiver of thirty-three years, Lucia M. Bowman; his devoted daughters, Jammar Williams (Jonathan) of Richmond, VA, Ashanteè Bowman of Greensboro, NC; son, Travis Bowman of Rochester, NY; daughter, Nicole Hall (Darnell) of South Carolina; stepson, Jerome Carelock (Cheri) of Vacaville, CA.; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; his sisters, Saundra Spriggs (Joe Bell) and Dolores Harvey, all of Harrisburg, PA; mother-in-law, Wydantha (Lawrence) Bumbrey; a nephew he reared like a son, Brian Davis of Steelton, PA; and godson, Bobatu Johnson. He also leaves to cherish his memory several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; his loving uncle, Ronald “Boomie” Yates (Shirley); aunts, Shirley Baltimore Carter and Barbara Baltimore; as well as a long list of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
