Richard Lee Burnett Jr.

Richard Lee Burnett, Jr. was born on July 16, 1963, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He was the son of the late Richard L. Burnett, Sr. and the late Betty (Cornelius) Burnett. He received his formal education in the Harrisburg School District, graduating in 1982. He attended trade school and earned a certificate in Carpentry. He was an employee of Harrisburg Hospital for 15 years and later employed by Giant Food Corporation for 12 years until his health caused him to retire in 2022. In 1988, he married his high school sweetheart, Toni Marie Thompson, whom he loved unconditionally. From that union, they had three children: Janell, Jazmine and Jajuan. He was the epitome of a family man who would do absolutely anything for his children and grandchildren. He cherished spending time with his mother and siblings. Throughout the years, he enjoyed many family vacations and going on road trips with his wife. One of his favorite pastimes was riding his e-bike, taking long rides with his grandkids all throughout the city of Harrisburg. Time with his grandchildren was one of his greatest joys, and he especially loved having them over for sleepovers. Affectionately known as “Trick,” he lived life fully and loved with intention. Whether you needed a laugh, smile, or shoulder to lean on, he was always giving of himself and willing to help others. Trick was quite handy and had a knack for fixing things. He was a great cook who often tried and shared new recipes he discovered from watching YouTube videos. He loved watching sports and was an avid 49ers fan. On Saturday, September 5, 2026, Richard L. Burnett, Jr. transitioned from this life at the age of 63. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers, Edward Burnett, Henry Burnett and Curtis Cornelius; his maternal grandmother, Mamie Cunningham; his paternal grandmother, Lucy Burnett; his father-in-law, Bishop Milton A. Thompson, Sr.; and his four brothers-in-law, Lonnie Chism, Terrence Smith, Keith Thompson, Sr. and Allen Anderson, Sr. Richard leaves to honor and cherish his life his devoted and loving wife of 38 years, Toni Marie Thomspon-Burnett; his three children, Janell, Jazmine and Jajuan Burnett, all of Harrisburg, PA; his ten grandchildren, Jaion Burnett, Ka’lani Baltimore, Kevin Baltimore Jr., Kamora Baltimore, Jayceon Burnett, Ja’zoni Burnett, Journee Burnett, Jaeden Burnett, Aryah Burnett and Kaeson Burnett, all of Harrisburg, PA; his siblings, Michelle Smith, Barbara Chism, Kimberly Davenport (Raymond), Corrie Burnett (Christal), Michelle Washington (Thomas) all of Harrisburg, PA, Anthony Hankerson of Chambersburg, PA, and Ronald Hankerson (Cheryl) of McConnellsburg, PA; his god-brother, Larry Staff; his mother-in-law, Pastor Susan M. Thompson; his brothers-in-law, Michael Thompson and Milton Thompson, Jr. (Kaniesha); his sisters-in-law, Tonja Anderson, Hope Thompson and Faith Thompson, all of Harrisburg, PA; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
