Milton Britton Jr. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The works I’ve done sometimes seemed so small. It seemed like I did nothing at all. But when I came before God’s throne and heard him say, “Well Done.” Then I knew the works I did spoke for me. “Pete,” as he was affectionately known, was the second oldest son of the late Milton Britton and Willie Mae Williams Britton. He was born April 30, 1928, in Washington, Wilkes County, Georgia. Milton received his formal education in the Washington, Georgia, School System. At an early age, he was baptized and united in Christian fellowship with the Cherry Grove Baptist Church, Washington, GA. He relocated to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where in 1953, he united with Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church under the tutelage of the late Rev. Franklin L. Henley and served on the church’s Usher Board. Milton united in holy matrimony to the love-of-his-life, his beautiful wife Charlae, affectionately known as “Lou” (Anthony) Britton. Their union was blessed with one son and four daughters. Milton’s working years began in Washington, GA. For over forty-seven years while employed in various positions, he proved himself to be a man of strong work ethics, loyal, faithful and dedicated. In 1991, he retired from Pittsburgh Plate Glass, Carlisle, PA. Milton loved gardening, singing and cooking; but most of all, he loved helping others and keeping a watchful eye over his children and grandchildren. His greatest joys in life were his family, maintaining his garden, landscaping around his property and helping his neighbors maintain their lawns. He was very grateful to his neighbor Teddy Brown who assisted him with his lawn work, household duties and numerous other tasks. Milton was very independent and did not want help most times. “He would rather do it himself.” Leisurely, Milton enjoyed watching old-western cowboy movies and The Weather Channel. He was an avid wrestling fan and his favorite football team was the Philadelphia Eagles. Along with his gardening and landscaping, he loved to bake pound cakes and sweet potato pies, as well as eat them. He loved reading to his children, discussing family history, local and world events. He exercised his privilege and right to vote in any and all elections and was a strong advocate and supporter of President Obama. Lastly, he loved his coffee and always drank several cups each day. In addition to his parents, Milton was preceded in death by his wife Lou (Anthony) Britton; a son, Anthony Britton; one sister, Doris Holliman; five brothers, Boelean Britton Sr., Raymond Britton, Edison Britton, Marion Britton and James Britton. On Wednesday, January 29, 2014, Pete’s work on earth was completed, and he was called home to be with His Heavenly Father. He leaves to emulate his legacy of love, faith, loyalty and dedication four daughters, Marilyn Britton Donley (Charles), Angela Britton Harvey, Cynthia Britton and Jodi Britton Roman, all of Harrisburg; four grandsons, Tarrin A. Britton, Anthony A. Britton, Akiem A. Britton and Kyle E. Britton; five granddaughters, Tracy Y. Donley, Cherie J. Harvey Musa, Kendra C. Harvey, Ariss A. Britton Taylor and Bre’Ana L. Roman; eleven great grandchildren; one sister, Thelma Britton of Steelton, PA; one brother, Joseph Britton (Yvonne) of Harrisburg; as well as other relatives and friends. Milton was affectionately known by his family, close friends and neighborhood children as Mr. Pete, Milt, Grand pop Pete and (aka) “Pistol Pete.” “May the Works I’ve Done Speak for Me.” With Love and Humble Submission to God’s Will, The Family Mr. Britton’s life will be celebrated at 12 Noon, Thursday, February 6th, at his church, 1201 N. 17th Street, Harrisburg, with viewing from 10 A.M. to 12 Noon. Interment will be held at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
