I knew if I did, I’d be with Christ. As my body lies here, it’s only a shell. God has called me home and my job I’ve tried to do well; now I’m happy and content. For the things I’ve done wrong, I repent. I have no worries, pains or fears because I’m with God--so dry your tears. I love you all and this is what I want you to do, “Put God first in your life and I’ll be seeing you.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mary L. Lee, daughter of the late Trim Smallwood II and the late Missie Smallwood, was born Friday, December 26, 1919, in Windsor, Bertie County, North Carolina. Mary received her formal education in NC and migrated from Woodville, NC. to Steelton, PA, in April,1951. She trained at the Harrisburg Hospital, Harrisburg, PA, earning certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse, LPN. A hard worker, Mary utilized her nursing skills at the Harrisburg Hospital and the Commonwealth of PA, Harrisburg State Hospital until her retirement in 1985. Desirous of helping her fellowman improve employment opportunities and equality in the workplace, she joined AFSCME No. 13 and served as a shop steward for many years before her retirement. A prayer warrior and longtime, loyal member of The First Baptist Church of Steelton, Sister Lee attended Prayer Meetings, Sunday School and the Senior Citizens Guild. In 1952, she chaired the church’s Annual Women’s Day Celebration with featured speaker, Mrs. Rachel Luten, a retired Superintendent of the Public Schools in Bertie County, NC. Sister Lee also chaired an All-Church Tea and Fashion Show. She was a faithful member of the Senior Choir, Golden Rod Missionaries and Nurses Ministries as well as President of the Nurses Ministry, Central Baptist Association. Upon her retirement from the Harrisburg State Hospital, she attended Tuesday Noon Day Prayer and worked with Vacation Bible School. Committed to the Lord’s work, she served wherever there was a need until her declining health. Sister Lee loved God, family, church family and, in general, everyone. Her path crossed many people from all walks of life who had a positive influence on her life: Mr. Bill Morrow, Dr. McLaughlin, Dr. Jones, Mr. William Thompson and the pastors, ministers, men and women of The First Baptist Church of Steelton. Her pastimes included knitting, crocheting, and she especially loved sewing clothes for her husband of seventy-one years, the late Mr. George Lee. At the blessed age of ninety-five, on Monday, October 5, 2015, while a resident at the Colonial Park Care Center, Harrisburg, PA, Sister Lee peacefully transitioned safely into the Arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ joining in eternal life her parents, husband, son Peter Lee, two sisters and four brothers. Sister Lee leaves to cherish her memory and honor her legacy of love, prayerfulness, dedication and faithfulness her daughter, Clorease Lee Slade of Steelton, PA; grandson, John A. Slade and his wife Tracy of Newark, DE; granddaughter, Sylvia A. Slade Dudley of Philadelphia, PA; four great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Giving God All Glory, Honor and Praise, Submitted by The Family Her life will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, October 16, 2015, with viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. at The First Baptist Church of Steelton, 1850 S. 19th Street, Harrisburg, PA 17104. Interment will be at William Howard Day Cemetery, Steelton.
