Marilyn "Lyn" Gregory

Marilyn Gregory, affectionately known as Lyn, daughter of the late Agnes Lauretta Gregory and the late Henry Butler Gregory Jr., was born Wednesday, January 13, 1948, in Harrisburg, PA. Marilyn received her education from the Edgewood High School in San Antonio, TX. She worked various jobs until settling in early childhood education completing several certifications. Lyn worked at Strawberry Garden Preschool retiring after serving twenty-five years. She gave her heart and soul to the kids of “The Garden.” Lyn was a minimalist who took pleasure in calm activities that allowed her to be creative. Sewing, knitting, and crafting were some of the things she enjoyed. Lyn loved when she could take new crafts into “The Garden” to teach the kids. She believed in children having space to explore, be creative, and grow. Lyn also enjoyed shopping, spending time traveling, and hanging out with family. She was great at shopping. Her favorite line was “You never pay full price for anything.” Lyn was very patient, kind, reliable, and understanding to any. If a great listening ear was a person, it would’ve been her. After retiring Lyn spent her time caring for her ailing paternal grandmother whom she adored until her passing. Her later years were spent with more quality time with her sister at family functions and watching TV. On Sunday, April 28, 2024, at home with family, Lyn was called into eternal life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Agnes Lauretta Gregory and Henry Butler Gregory Jr.; her grandparents, Hansel and Leona Hitchock and Abraham and Blondena Fortune; aunts, Rose Marie Marshall and Mary Elizabeth Hendrix; and stepson, Rudolph H. Mitchell Jr. With her unwavering love and dedication, she leaves to cherish her memories her children, Hansel Shawn Gregory and Rodney “Meatball” Gregory, both of (Harrisburg); stepchildren, Larry Mitchell Sr., (Fayetteville, GA), Stewart Young Sr., and Diane “Annie” Durham, both of (Harrisburg); grandchildren, Shamicka Bradley-Jackson (Chris), Sache Bradley, Shalisa Bradley, Marquez Bradley (Amanda), DaLasha Scott-Durham and Dene Davis Durham; great-grandchildren, Nasir, Nhyre, Kwamir, Lamir, Jaeon, Amir, Nyrell, and a host of step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; her devoted sister, Debra “Debbie” Thompson; brother, Henry Gregory; “The Anty’s,” as she affectionately called them, Mildred Bethea and Sarah Hitchcock, both of (Harrisburg), as well as a host of other family and friends.
