Joyce Gretchen Bivins

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joyce Gretchen Bivins, a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. Joyce peacefully passed away on March 8, 2025, at the age of 78. Born in Harrisburg, PA, on August 13, 1946, Joyce brought warmth, laughter, and love to everyone she encountered. Throughout her life, she embraced the things that brought her joy, including her deep love for fishing, crafting with her Cricut machine, and traveling to new places. However, what brought her the most happiness was spending cherished moments with her family, especially her adored grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joyce’s favorite pastime was Bingo, where she made countless memories with friends and family. She found joy in the simple things, always making sure to savor every moment spent with those she loved. She will be remembered for her unwavering love, kindness, and the ability to bring people together. Joyce is survived by her loving husband, Curtis Bivins; her sons, John Bivins (Kelly) and Craig Bivins (Kristen); her sister, Lynette Madden; her brother, Michael Madden; and her many treasured grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will all miss her deeply. She was preceded in death by her mother, Nawassa Madden; her sister, Ramona L Bates; and her brother, John Madden. As the devoted wife of Curtis, a United States Marine Corp and Air Force Retiree, she embraced a life of adventure, living in incredible places such as Alaska, Colorado, Texas, and California before eventually returning to Pennsylvania. Every other year, she and Curtis set out on cross-country car journeys with their children to visit family. In their younger years, Joyce and her family enjoyed the rugged beauty of the Alaskan and Colorado mountains, the vast Mojave Desert of California, and a wonderful time in Austin, Texas. Whether she was skinning rabbits in her Alaskan kitchen or sharing the magic of a B.B. King performance with Curtis, she embraced life with enthusiasm. Joyce also found great joy in exploring flea markets with her sisters, mother, and brother, treasuring the simple pleasures of time spent together. Joyce’s legacy of love, creativity, and family devotion will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed, but forever in our hearts.
