Jennifer Thrasher Ayers

Jennifer Thrasher Ayers, affectionately known as “Jan” by her family and friends, was born on Wednesday, September 3, 1947, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to the late Jefferson F. Davenport and the late Etta McCullum. Jan was a graduate of John Harris High School, and throughout her life demonstrated a strong work ethic and an unwavering commitment to service. She was employed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Human Relations Commission, where she faithfully served for thirty-five years. In February 2009, after a remarkable career marked by dedication and excellence, Jan retired from the Commission, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and compassion. In her leisure, Jan loved watching her favorite football team, the Pittsburgh Steelers. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, holding yard sales, and creating floral arrangements, earning a reputation as a true homemaker. Among her many skills, she was especially renowned for her delicious homemade cookies, a yearly treat that her family and friends eagerly looked forward to. Jan lived well, laughed often, and loved deeply. Her life was filled with laughter, generosity, and faith. She will always be remembered for her love, loyalty, and devotion to her family, and for her warm, giving spirit that touched the hearts of everyone she encountered. On Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at seventy-eight years of age, while at home surrounded by her loving family in prayer, Jan peacefully transitioned from this life to eternal rest. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Maurice Thrasher. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted son, Blake Thrasher, Sr. (Jane Lakay Thrasher); three grandchildren, Patricia Knight, Patrick Knight, and Blake Thrasher, Jr.; seven great-grandchildren; her four siblings, Jeff (Debra), Earl (Linda), Brian Walker, and Nadine Walker; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever treasure her memory. Jan was a daughter, mother, sister, aunt, and most importantly, a Child of God. Her light will continue to shine through the lives of those she loved, and her spirit will remain a constant reminder of faith, love, and family.
