James "Junior" Jackson Sr.

James Jackson Sr. was born Sunday, October 31, 1937, in Sumter, South Carolina, to the late Peter Efferson and the late Inez (Johnson) Wright. “Jimmy Jack” or “Junior,” as he was affectionately known by family and friends, attended High Hill High School in Sumter. In 1955, he moved to Steelton, Pennsylvania, where he was well-known and interacted with many in the Harrisburg/Steelton Community. Always well-dressed with meticulously manicured nails, Junior could many times be found in Downtown Harrisburg wearing his favorite bright, colorful and dapper attire. In his earlier days, he was a “not- to-be-outdone” dancer. He also loved to shoot pool and was an avid Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles Fan. Junior was employed at Bethlehem Steel Company where he retired after forty-four years of dedicated service. He was united in Christian fellowship with Monumental A.M.E. Church and was a member of Elk Cyrene Lodge #169, Steelton. In Harrisburg, PA, on Saturday, August 7, 2021, at eighty-three years of age, surrounded by his family at UPMC Harrisburg, Junior transitioned from time to eternity joining in eternal life his parents; and his siblings, Fred Jackson, Jennings Jackson Sr., Jacqueline (Wright) Logan, Calvin Wright and Francis Nixon. Junior leaves to cherish many irreplaceable memories his devoted wife of sixty-four years, Rosa Jackson of Steelton, PA; his children, Stephanie L. Woodward (Rod), Kenneth D. Jackson, all of Harrisburg, PA, Kevin D. Jackson (Karen) of Steelton, James Jackson Jr. (Lanetta) of Richmond, VA, and Timothy Jackson of Steelton; his siblings, Dan Wright of Steelton, Charlie Wright Jr. (Sharon) of Harrisburg, Cynthia O`Neal (Leon) and Ernest Ricks of Columbia, SC. His legacy will also be honored by his grandchildren, Sha-Vaughn L. Clardy, Kyra L. Clardy, Todd J. Updergraff, LaTosha R. Nelson-Bey, Autumn L. Jackson, Kavon T. Jackson, Khyle Waters, Rick Lemelle, VaRhondalette Ellington, De’Andre C. Jackson, Akira Caldwell, Mikey Lemelle; his great-grandchildren, Kyree K. Murphy, Malik S. Clardy, Mason Williams, Arihana N. Nelson-Bey, Ahmad K. Nelson-Bey, Aiyesha I. Nelson-Bey, Kamani Jackson; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.
