The Obituary Mr. James P. Gibson ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We could remember Bubba and only that he is gone, Or we could cherish his memory and let it live on. We could cry and close our minds, Be empty and turn our backs, Or we could do what Bubba would want, Smile, open our eyes, love and go on. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ James P. Gibson, affectionately known as Bubba by his family and friends, was born April 3, 1937, in Morganfield, Kentucky, to the late James P. Gibson Sr. and the late Addie Christine Oates Gibson. Upon his graduation from Union High School in Morganfield, Bubba served in the United States Navy. In 1989, he retired from Transcon Lines, Inc., Camp Hill, PA. Bubba was a member of Teamsters Local #776, a former Masonic Lodge member as well as a former member of Cyrene Lodge #169. He loved horseback riding, playing slot machines, gardening, grilling his famous barbeque ribs and, foremost, spending time with his family and friends. Bubba had a keen interest in politics and loved listening to the opinions and views of political activist, Reverend Al Sharpton. On Saturday, March 28, 2015, in his seventy-seventh year, at his home in Harrisburg, PA, Bubba peacefully entered into eternal life passing from labor to reward. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Vivian Gibson Lyles; his son, James Gibson; two sisters, Parthenia Lewis and Gloria Faye; and three brothers, Walter, Chester and Erskine Gibson. Bubba leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of forty years, Annette Gibson of Harrisburg; two stepchildren, Lance Slaughter of Harrisburg, and Andrea Johnson of Steelton, PA; eight grandchildren, Sharita Gibson who was his devoted caretaker, Jameanna and Willie Lyles, all of Harrisburg, Charles Johnson of Steelton, Leonard Monroe, Darnae Anderson and Lance Slaughter II, all of Florida, Eric Slaughter of Chicago, and eleven great grandchildren. Bubba will also be lovingly remembered by his three sisters, Betty Lou Swanson of Indiana, Vivian Tubbs of Henderson, KY, and Rochelle Burks of Sturgis, KY; one brother, Marvin Gibson of Henderson, KY; his devoted friend, Benjamin Brown of Harrisburg; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
