Ida B. Proctor

Ida B. Proctor, daughter of the late Martha B. and John W. Thrasher Sr., was born on Wednesday, April 15, 1931, in Athens, GA. Ida accepted Christ at an early age and joined Ebenezer Baptist Church under the pastorage of Rev. C. J. Gresham. In the early 1940’s, Ida’s family relocated to Harrisburg, PA, where she received her formal education in the Harrisburg Public School System. The family began attending Union Baptist Church which later changed its name to Goodwin Memorial Baptist Church. In the 1950’s, Ida joined the membership under the leadership of Rev. B. L Warren. As a member, she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Usher Board Member, Advisor to the Junior Usher Board, Deaconess, member of the Women’s Fellowship, Church Anniversary, Women’s Day Committee and Senior Citizens’ Ministry. Ida was blessed to be a member of Goodwin for over seventy years. In 1953, Ida united in holy matrimony with Norman E. Proctor Jr., and they were blessed to have celebrated sixty years of marriage. Their union was blessed with two daughters. During her working years, Ida was employed by and retired from the Harrisburg School System. Leisurely, Ida enjoyed flower gardening, word search puzzles, reading her Bible and spending time with family and friends. Her welcoming smile showed her kind heart and immense love for people. She knew how to make everyone feel special. In obedience to her Heavenly Father, Ida B. Proctor, at the age of ninety-two, peacefully transitioned into eternal life on Friday, December 28, 2023. Along with her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Gracie Upchurch, and two brothers, John W. Thrasher Jr. and Mack Inus Thrasher Sr. She leaves many special memories to be cherished by her two daughters, Joyce Pierce (Gregory) of Missouri City, TX, and Gail Howell (Charles) of Ellicott City, MD; two grandchildren, David Howell, Ellicott City, Monica Howell of Alexandria, VA; one great-grandchild, Reign Howell; sister, Diane Thrasher of Deland, FL; brother, Marvin Thrasher Sr. (Carol) of Harrisburg, PA; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and her church family.
