Evelyn Johnson Harvey

Evelyn Johnson Harvey, affectionately known as “Hushie” or “Evev,” was born on September 29, 1938, in Orangeburg, South Carolina, to the late Robert Johnson Sr. and Ada (Seawright) Johnson-Moore. Evelyn attended George Washington Carver School in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Upon graduating, Evelyn moved to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to be closer to family. Over the years, she worked as a babysitter, an educator at Edison Middle School, and a shirt presser at several dry cleaners. She was a member of Camp Curtain Mitchell Memorial Church. Evelyn later began working at the New Cumberland Army Depot, where she served for over 32 years and retired in October 2013 as a Distribution Process Administrator. Evelyn had a special love for style and was known for wearing her three-inch heels and always looking good. She had a true flair for interior decorating, home improvements, and all things DIY, and she enjoyed putting her own personal touch on everything she did. Evelyn loved hosting gatherings and was known for throwing a good party. She enjoyed music, dancing, laughing, and spending time with family and friends, usually with a bottle of her favorite Canadian Club, Miller High Life, and Parliament cigarettes close by. Evelyn was married to Julius Harvey Jr. From their union, they had six children; five sons, Curtis, Keith, Kennith, Julius, and Jerome “Chaseray”; and one daughter, Sherry, and a bonus son, Charles “Bosco” Washington. She dedicated her life to her children and grandchildren. On Friday, January 9, 2026, at 9:10 A.M., while at the Gardens of West Shore Facility in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. Evelyn Johnson Harvey entered into eternal rest at eighty-seven years of age. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Sonny, Zula (Herblee), Lessie Sr., Bessie (George Sr.), Eloyse, Robert Jr. (Bernice), Ada (Shelle), Elizabeth, Ourelia (Rhea), Albertha; her son, Julius Harvey III, and grandson, Keith D. Harvey. She leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Curtis Harvey, Keith Harvey (Lynn), Kennith Harvey (Vee), Jerome “Chaseray” Harvey (Mattie); her daughter, Sherry Haynesworth; her grandchildren, Cherie J. Williams (Andrew), Terelle Harvey (China), Kendra C. Harvey, Cherelle J. Harvey (Mikal), Cassandra M. Harvey (Jazmine), Rochelle C. Walker (Antonio), Kiara N. Harvey, Ryan Harvey, Serrean A. Haynesworth, Madison C. Harvey, and Zyen J. Haynesworth. Along with a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and her sister-in-law, Duoretha Johnson (Lessie Sr.). As the last surviving sibling, Evelyn was the matriarch of her family. A living link to generations of shared memories, traditions, and love. With her passing, an era of her family’s history has come to a close.
