Bradley T. Jackson Sr.

Bradley T. Jackson Sr. was born to the late Lynward L. Hudson Sr. and Joyce A. Jackson in Harrisburg, PA. He attended Harrisburg City Schools, where his personality and athletic ability earned him spots on several all-star teams and a tryout with the Pittsburgh Pirates at age 16. Brad graduated from Harrisburg High in 1976. He was a PA Big 33 nominee and named “Mr. Touchdown,” earning a football scholarship at Shippensburg University. Shortly thereafter, he became a father and entered the workforce, not because he had to; he believed he was “doing the right thing.” Brad’s father was a licensed cosmetologist and licensed barber teacher, the first Black owner of a hair supply store in Dauphin County, PA, and the first Black owner of a barber school on the East Coast, known as “The Hudson Building,” a historical landmark in the community that stands today. There, he became a licensed barber. His brother then opened “Hudson’s Bar” on the lower level, where Brad bartended. Brad was a certified bartender with JK Catering. He reminded us that he was a “mixologist.” He was also a “spadeologist.” According to him, he studied any talent or skill and was a specialist. If you ask him, he had the right ingredients for the perfect burger, named “Brad Burgers,” which we will miss. Brad managed a full-time job and two part-time jobs for thirty-plus years. He worked with JK Catering and, interchangeably, between Arnold Logistics, Jacobson Companies, Norbert Dentressangle, XPO, and GXO due to changes in ownership, before retiring from Harrisburg Dairies in 2023. He continued working part-time for GXO until he was hospitalized. Brad was reliable and dependable and enjoyed working with people. He was a supervisor, team leader, and a friend to all whom he encountered. He was committed to making a difference in people's lives and creating a legacy he could be proud of through hard work and dedication. He was a former member of Day Springs Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Clifford Ashe. In Brad’s words, “I thank God every day.” God united Brad and Schumetta in 2004. A foundation of love was created that no man could separate. Brad loved family, music, entertainment, and sports. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers, Penn State, New York Yankees, and Philadelphia Phillies fan. A man of many talents and competitive in nature, he was athletic and physically fit, never ceasing to challenge us to pushups or some game he made up. He organized family bowling events and made the most of every moment. He spoke highly of his “Legacy” and the life he created. He was happy with the life he lived and at peace with life. He was emotional with each of us as he expressed how proud he was of our accomplishments. He made a great effort in letting us know that he loved us without a doubt. Brad's legacy will continue through his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Schumetta of 24 years; his children, Terese Cyrus, Bradley T. Jackson Jr. (Angela) of New Bern, NC, Davelle Crawford, Kyon Jackson of Nashville, TN, Sharicka Peters of York, PA, Brandon Jackson of Philadelphia, Sydney Raserby of Pine Hills, NJ; and 13 grandchildren. He is also survived by his beloved chosen son, Devon Washington Sr. (Christina); 7 brothers, Lynward L. Hudson Jr., Brian Hudson (Gena), Marlin Hudson, Adrian Jackson, Kerry Jackson, Eugene Jackson, and Earle Jackson; 4 sisters, Lyndia Brown, Pamela Waters, Shari Jackson-Ross (Dwayne), and Monica Jackson. He was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Hudson Miller.
