Betty Jean Cowart

Betty Jean Cowart, daughter of Almond and Lula Bell Wallace, was born Sunday, June 26, 1949, in Albany, Georgia. Educated in the Dougherty County School System, Georgia, Betty retired from Dauphin County Nursing Home, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Betty married the love-of-her-life, Sanford “Bay Boy” Cowart. Betty and Sanford were blessed with son, Eric “Spank” Cowart. They also held a special place in their hearts for the niece they raised, Melissa “Duck” Alexander. Betty was a very special lady with a beautiful smile. Never one to complain, she enjoyed life and said what she meant and meant what she said. She loved traveling to Georgia to visit her sister-in-law, Florine. Betty loved to cook, and her potato salad was enjoyed and talked about by many. Everyone looked forward to the bus trips Betty hosted to Atlantic City which included a delicious meal. She enjoyed going to the casinos with her crew. Betty was known to ask, “Did you check on “Boobie” and have you seen that damn Dwayne?” Most importantly, Betty’s greatest joy was leading her family to know and understand God and God alone is the only one we are accountable to in the long run. In Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at seventy-four years of age, Betty went home to be with the Lord joining in eternal life her parents, Almond and Lula Bell Wallace; her husband, Sanford “Bay Boy” Cowart; son, Eric “Spank” Cowart; her twin brother Bobby; grandparents, John and Hattie Lanier; brothers, Albert, Jimmy, Walter; and sisters, Joann, Christine and Wyvonia. Betty Jean Cowart leaves a loving legacy to be honored by her sisters, Delores Brown (Calvin), Patricia Hills (Tyrone); brothers, Tommy Chatman (Rosalind) and Larry; brother-in-law, Ellis Mills; sister-in-law, Florine Thomas; grandchildren, Ericka Cowart, Eric and Jerica Turner; great-grandchildren, Dmiere, Rashaad, Erin, Marquis and Yuri; her nieces and nephews she dearly loved as well as other family members and friends.
