Anna Carter

Anna, the youngest and last survivor of seven siblings, was born in Steelton, PA, on Saturday, September 17, 1927, to the late Charles and Mary Stannard. Anna began her education at the former Hygienic School and graduated from Steelton High School. Having accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior, Anna became a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church as a young child. During her membership, Anna was involved in many ministries including serving as President of the Senior Missionaries, representing her church as a delegate at several State and National Baptist Conventions. Anna was an active participant of the Hospitality and Kitchen Ministries, the annual Back-to-School-Block- Party and Community Prayer Walk. She was a devout member and found great joy in her faith and community. Anna retired from the PA Department of Revenue after many years of dedicated service. Anna was known for her love of solving crossword puzzles and her passion for traveling the world. On Thursday, May 2, 2024, Anna Carter transitioned from time to eternity. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis P. Carter; brothers, Charles and James Stannard; sisters, Mabel Stannard and Mozella Washington, twins, Magdalene and Anniston Stannard; and son, Coleman Carter. Anna leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will be forever treasured by her family and friends. Anna is survived by daughters, Jeannette Cornish, Paterson, NJ, Elizabeth Carter, Harrisburg, PA, Sharon Johnson, Acworth, GA, and Judith Boampong, Austell, GA; son, Gregory Carter of Norfolk, VA; and a devoted niece, Cheryl Johnson of Pikestown, MD; twelve grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren and twelve great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a dear and close sister-in-law, Faye Carter of Steelton, PA; sisters-in-law, Pam Carter and Jane Tinsley; brother-in-law, George Tinsley of Charlottesville, VA, as well as other relatives and friends.
