Alice L. Thompson

Alice L. Thompson, daughter of the late Ernest Moore and the late Ida Ruth (Lindsay) Long, was born Friday, January 3, 1947, in Fountain, North Carolina. Alice was a fiercely independent woman with a big loving heart. She lived life on her own terms full of good times, jokes, laughter and friendly conversation. Alice was always willing to befriend others. She enjoyed meeting new people and engaging in conversations with adults, kids, neighbors and community workers. She was really surprised to learn how many people were from North Carolina or “Down South.” She had a great sense of humor and was naturally funny without even trying as exemplified by her favorite saying, “Walking ain’t crowded.” Affectionately known as “The Block Captain,” Alice was proud to take care of her front porch, sidewalk and garden at her 410 S. 14th Street, Harrisburg home. She was recognized by the City of Harrisburg for her longstanding dedication and citizenship in her Allison Hill Neighborhood. Alice loved animals and was known to have her devoted pets close by. She also surrounded her home with stuffed animals. In her earlier years, she was an avid bowler and pool player. A natural in the kitchen, she honed her skills as a professional cook throughout her working years. Providing plates of her cooked food to others was her love language. One of her most enjoyable pastimes was playing cards. She swore hands-down that she could beat anybody in 500, Spades, Tonk or Uno. She also enjoyed watching her favorite shows and movies, “Gun Smoke,” “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit (SVU),” “Westerns,” “Remember the Titans,” “Self-Made/Madam C. J. Walker” and “Yellowstone.” Her favorite actors were Tyler Perry/Madea and Denzel Washington. Alice adored spending time with her family and friends while enjoying a beverage of her choice and listening to her music, especially 70’s Soul. Foremost, Alice enjoyed sharing pictures of her family which she displayed throughout her home. In Harrisburg, PA, on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, Alice transitioned from time to eternity joining her parents and her husband, Charles A. Thompson Jr. “Charlie Rock.” Alice and Charles shared a loving union until his passing in 2004. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Carrie G. Collins, Alton Lindsay, Ernest Moore and David Moore. Alice leaves to mourn her sudden passing and forever cherish her memory her greatest legacy: her daughters, Pamela Ealey, Sherry Forte, both of Indianapolis, IN, and Evone Thornton of Lancaster, PA; sons, Tony Thompson of Baltimore, MD, Alton Thompson of Atlanta, GA, and Desmond Thompson of Harrisburg, PA; nineteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; other family members and friends.
