Alberta Hardy

Alberta Hardy, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, and devoted friend, was born on September 11, 1927, to the late Mary Bowden and Lee Johnson in Kelford, North Carolina. Before beginning her long and fulfilling career with the Pennsylvania Bureau of Professional & Occupational Affairs in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Alberta was employed as a seamstress at Kate Greenaway Dress Factory, where her strong work ethic and dedication were evident from the very beginning of her working life. She later retired after years of faithful service. Outside of her professional life, Alberta's heart belonged to ministry and charity. She possessed a servant’s heart, regularly volunteering her time to care for those in need at the Bethesda Mission, local women’s shelters, and anywhere else she saw an opportunity to serve or lend a helping hand. She found genuine joy in putting the needs of others before her own and making a difference in the lives of those around her. Her faith was central to her life, and she was deeply active in her church community. Alberta served faithfully as a trustee, participated on various church committees, stood on the usher boards, and sang in the choirs at both Second Baptist Church of Harrisburg and The First Baptist Church of Steelton, Pennsylvania. She dearly loved her church and her First Baptist family. Even after relocating to Maryland to live with her daughter, she made it clear to everyone when she visited that First Baptist would always be her church home, holding a special place in her heart throughout her life. On Friday, June 26, 2026, at the remarkable age of ninety-eight, Alberta peacefully transitioned from this life in Fort Washington, Maryland. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of forty-three years, Judson Hardy; her daughter, Linda Green; her son, Judson Maurice; her sisters, Verna, Hazel, and Margaret; and her brothers, James Lloyd, Edward, and Willie Clarence. Alberta’s rich legacy of love, faith, and family lives on through her surviving children, Gail, Wanda (Anthony), Cheryl (Winston), and Jeffrey; her dear sisters, Shirlene Burhannan and Evoria Ewell; eleven cherished grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; her three bonus daughters, Jocelyn Harper, Stacy, and Gloria East; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss her deeply. Alberta will be remembered for her unwavering faith, gentle spirit, compassionate heart, and lifelong commitment to serving God and others. Her life was a beautiful example of love in action, and her legacy will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
