Patricia Izearta Kershaw

Patricia Izearta Kershaw, better known to family and friends as “Patsy/Ms. Pat,” was born Wednesday, February 8, 1939, in Harrisburg, PA, the loving daughter of the late Izear Kershaw and Mary Emma McLaughlin, as well as the daughter of the parents who raised her, William and Martha Louise Kershaw. Pat graduated from Central Dauphin High School and retired from Sizzler International in Los Angeles as an Executive Assistant. After retirement, she moved back to the Harrisburg area ultimately living with her sister Brenda and nephew Amani. She was twice united in marriage. Pat was a licensed cosmetologist, and one of her favorite jobs was as a window dresser at the old “Darling Shop.” On her last job a few years ago, she handed out food samples at Sam’s Club. Pat acted like the food was hers and had no problem telling people and their kids if they came for too many samples, “It’s not a meal!” Her true joy was being “Mammaw” to her grandchildren. When they were toddlers, she had a whole Fisher Price Playground set up in her townhouse living room for them. Among Patsy’s most enjoyable activities were going to the casino to play the slots, playing cards back in the day and scratching off lottery tickets. On her last birthday, she went to Hollywood Casino in York, and though she didn’t win, she truly enjoyed herself there and at her birthday dinner at “Cheddars.” Patsy was a lady of such style and class especially loving her hats and scarves. Pat loved professional football and basketball and would talk smack with the guys at the barbershop about the Lakers especially. She really missed watching and talking sports with her brother Kerty. She liked making her signature chicken salad and sweet potato cheesecakes which she made for a caterer for Magic Johnson’s Midsummer Night’s Dream. In recent years, Pat was a patient at the Jewish Home/Capitol Rehab where the staff loved Miss Pat continually “giving them the business” on anything she thought wasn’t right—especially if it involved patients who couldn’t speak for themselves. Pat was very caring and now she loves us from above. On Sunday, May 14, 2023, Pat exchanged mortality for immortality with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Cherishing her memory and missing her are her son, Darryl Benton Sr. (Paula) of Los Angeles; adopted son, Christopher Taylor (Priscilla) of Las Vegas; sisters, Mary Ellen Wallace (George) of Hampton, VA, Brenda Glenn of Oberlin, PA; and brother, Reginald Cameron (Savaire) of Durham, NC. Pat’s legacy will also be honored and cherished by her grandchildren, Darryl Jr., Izear and Sania Benton of Los Angeles, Tatyanna and Jarron Taylor Jr. of Las Vegas; niece, Stacei Roberts of North Carolina; nephews, Bobby Roberts of North Carolina, Amani Glenn (Morgan) of Las Vegas, Eric and Damon Wallace of Maryland, Jason Wallace (Tracy) of Texas, and Kardale Cameron of North Carolina; three grandnieces, Amiyah, Ayanna and Ayva Glenn, all of Las Vegas; step-grandchildren, Brian Stewart (Melissa), Andre Stewart and Veronica Davis of Los Angeles; as well as a host of cousins and friends. “Death is nothing at all; I have only slipped into the next room. I am I and you are you.
