Mr. John W. Jackson

John W. Jackson, one of five children born to the late Janet Miller Jackson and the late John W. Jackson Sr., was born in Queens, New York. John departed peacefully from this life with his wife and loved ones by his side at Pinnacle’s Community General Hospital on Tuesday, September 20, 2016. John was raised and received his formal education in Queens, New York. After relocating to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, he took courses at Harrisburg Area Community College. Children and youth were dear to John’s heart. He saw the need and founded a faith-based corporation named “Becoming the Sum of One.” Through his corporation, high school graduates of the Harrisburg School District were awarded scholarships to obtain a higher education. Additionally, John, along with Pastor Larry Coleman, was instrumental in starting a mentoring program for ex-offenders held at Wesley Union A. M.E. Zion Church. He was also a member of the Yoke Fellowship Prison Ministry. Prior to John’s illness, he was employed as a supervisor at Service Master Janitorial Service of Harrisburg, as well as an independent consultant with Ambit Energy and Legal Shield Services. John became a member of Wesley Union A.M.E. Zion Church under the pastorate of Reverend Fredrick Massey. Over the years, John served as a Steward, Greeter, Class Leader, Choir Member and a helpmate to parishioners, young and old. John’s favorite scripture was: “If I can help somebody along the way, then my living shall not be in vain.” I Corinthians 15:58. Leisurely, John enjoyed movies on television and at the movie theaters. He spent many hours ministering and encouraging others to seek the Lord. The cherished memories of John’s life will long be remembered by his devoted wife of eight years, Anna M. Jackson of Harrisburg, PA.; two brothers, Michael Jackson (Patty), Terrance Jackson (Gale) of Harrisburg, PA; five sons, James Jackson (Tracey), Jerome Jackson (Linda), Daryl Crosby of New York; William B. Scott (Janette) and Gary Scott of Harrisburg, PA; one daughter, Karen Crosby of New York and a host of relatives, his church family and friends. Lovingly submitted by his Family. His life will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 27th, at Wesley Union A.M.E. Zion Church, 5th & Camp Streets, Harrisburg, with viewing/visitation 10-11 a.m. Flowers may be delivered to the church 9/27, 9-9:30 a.m.
