Catherine Watson

Well done, thou good and faithful servant Matthew 25:21 Catherine Watson, daughter of the late Emily (Fielding) and Harold Wright, and stepdaughter of Ferris Beard, was born Wednesday, April 14, 1943, in New Castle, PA. Catherine graduated from Strong Vincent High School in Erie, PA. She was a banker by trade most of her life starting as a teller at Security People’s Bank and working her way up through the years to become account and branch managers in various banks and finally retiring from M&T Bank, Harrisburg, PA. Due to her love of arts and crafts, she came out of retirement to work at AC Moore Arts and Crafts; two birds with one stone, extra money and access to ALL THE CRAFTS! Catherine loved to sew, crochet, make greeting cards, jewelry and anything crafty. She loved teaching others her arts and crafts talents and often taught jewelry-making classes at AC Moore. Along with sharing her expertise, she just enjoyed spending time with friends laughing and talking; and if you knew Catherine, you knew to make sure that time was extra great by having some PLAIN CHIPS AND COKE in hand please! Catherine loved her Lord with all her heart! Praise is what she did! She served her Lord in many different capacities. Formerly, she co-produced a gospel radio show in Erie, PA, and sang in a gospel music group and in many choirs despite singing not being her strong suit. She served as First Lady of Beautiful Zion Baptist of Erie, PA, Greater Calvary of Erie, PA, and Goodwin Memorial Baptist Church, Harrisburg, PA. She later joined Zion Assembly where she served with the Usher Ministry, assisted with communion set-up for first Sundays as well as in any other capacity where she could be useful; position never mattered to her. To know Catherine was to love her. She was kind, giving, easy-going, understanding and patient; but sometimes you might be the brunt of her biting sense of humor or her very opinionated point of view! But, if you knew her, then you also knew it was all in love! At her daughter’s home in Carlisle, PA, after a brave battle with Alzheimer’s, Catherine peacefully transitioned to meet her Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 2, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, brother, Lawrence Wright Sr. (Lucinda); sister, Patricia A. Thomas (William); and grandson, Brandon Mitchell. Catherine leaves to honor her legacy of love, faith and commitment two daughters, Michele Mitchell of Carlisle, PA, and Julieta Watson of Harrisburg, PA; her five grandchildren, Brittany Mitchell of Hummelstown, PA, Bryan Mitchell of Harrisburg, PA, Tre Banks of Middletown, PA, Mila Champ and Imani Champ; brother, Father Gerald Wright, OMV Associate Pastor, St. Peter Chanel Catholic Church, Hawaiian Gardens, CA; adopted granddaughter, Chelsea Mitchell, Harrisburg, PA; twelve great-grandchildren, nieces, cousins, “adopted children” and friends.
