    Willie James Phillips

    December 18, 1948 - January 21, 2022

Willie James Phillips, son of the late Willie Phillips and the late Edna Ruth (Reid) Phillips, was born Saturday, December 18, 1948, in Rock Hill, SC. A graduate of William Penn High School, Willie pursued higher education attending Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) majoring in accounting. He served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict where he was the recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Campaign Medals. His employment path included Milton Hershey, Hershey, PA, and retirement from the New Cumberland Army Depot. Willie’s Christian faith was evidenced by his membership at Harris A.M.E. Zion Church serving with the Buds and Youth Choirs and, most recently, his fellowship with New Anointed Christian Fellowship Ministries. Among Willie’s most enjoyable pastimes were watching westerns on television, shopping and, foremost, hanging out with family. On Friday, January 21, 2022, at UPMC Osteopathic Hospital, Harrisburg, PA, Willie transitioned from time to eternity at seventy-three years of age. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Anita Phillips, and bonus daughter, Sonya Glasper. Willie James Phillips leaves his love and irreplaceable memories to his daughters, Lisa Newton-Holmes (Mike), Mary Cargile (Durand), Pamela Newton-Anthony (Carlton); sister, Deborah Sims; and brothers, Thomas Reid (Jonita) and Stephen Phillips (Joan). Willie’s memory will also be honored by his eight grandchildren, Brittany Taylor, Whittany Taylor, Anthony Newton, India Dunham, Asia Anthony, Darian Cargile, Dominique Holmes, Michael Holmes Jr.; ten great-grandchildren, one godchild, other family members and two bonus daughters, Tammi Brown and Angela Fulwiley.
