September 6, 1945 - February 7, 2019
Willie, known as “Pap” by family and friends, was born Thursday, September 6, 1945, in Chester, South Carolina, son of the late Willie B. Hills and the late ReMattie Gaston Hills. Pap graduated from Finley High School, Chester, SC, and, thereafter, served honorably in the United States Marine Corps where he was recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and the Rifle Marksmanship Badge. An ambitious, hardworking, dedicated forerunner, Pap’s career path included founder of Preferred Janitorial Service, Harrisburg, PA, for forty-six years; Mechanicsburg Navy Depot, Mechanicsburg, PA, for twelve years; New Cumberland Army Depot, New Cumberland, PA, for thirteen years; and Olivetti Underwood, Harrisburg, for eleven years. He was united in Christian fellowship with The Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Some of his most enjoyable times were spent traveling with his wife and friends, eating at a good restaurant buffet, out-of-town shopping, watching CNN and discussing politics. To know Pap was to love Pap. He dearly loved and selflessly supported his family and his friends. Even during his protracted battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, he remained steadfast, never complaining. On Thursday, February 7, 2019, in his seventy-third year, while at his Harrisburg home embraced by his Heavenly Father and surrounded by the love of his family, Pap transitioned from labor to reward. He joined in eternal life his parents, sister, Gertrude McFadden, and brother, Floyd Hills. Many special and loving memories will forever be cherished in the hearts of his devoted wife of fifty-three years, Wilhelmena Hills of Harrisburg; his children, Sophia Hart of Charlotte, NC, Willie A. Hills Jr. (Rachael), Gabreal Shantel Hills, all of Harrisburg; seven grandchildren, Terrence Harris (Leanne), Dion Hart (Felicia), all of Charlotte, NC, Colleen L. Belton of Harrisburg, Dre Hart (Elizabeth) of Charlotte, NC, Destinie A. Belton-Hills of Harrisburg, Logan X. Sangree-Hills of Pittsburgh, PA, Zion S. Brown of Harrisburg; four great-grandsons, five great-granddaughters; two brothers, Charles Hills (Shirley) of Charlotte, NC, Douglas Hills (Mary) of Richburg, SC; one sister, Loretha (Larry) Curbean of Richburg; mother-in-law, Sara Mae Miles, three sisters-in-law, Lutricia Belk, Sara Ann Halley, Yvonne Miles, brother-in-law, Lionel Miles (Essie), all of Chester, SC; many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. A Life Well Lived, A Life Well Loved, A Life Well Shared! Lovingly Submitted, The Family of Willie Arthur “Pap” Hills Sr.
