Semajay Zaniyah Smith, daughter of Samantha Jackson and the late James Smith, was born on March 8, 2001, in York, Pennsylvania, but grew up in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Maj, as she was affectionately called by family and friends, became a member of the Beulah Baptist Church at an early age. She attended Sunday School, Bible Study, was a youth usher and a member of the praise dance team and youth choir. Semajay received her education in the Central Dauphin School District and the Harrisburg School District where she graduated from Harrisburg High, Class of 2019. During her school years, Semajay participated in all sports, basketball being her favorite. In the Central Dauphin School District, Maj participated in track and was a saxophone player in the band. At Harrisburg High, she was a member of the Harrisburg High Lady Cougar Basketball Team. Since her high school graduation, Maj held numerous jobs in the Hospitality Field. Semajay grew up the only child of her mother Samantha. Very outgoing, she made friends easily and loved the company of others. Semajay and her grandmother or “Boo Boo,” as they affectionately called each other, spent lots of time together. Semajay loved her grandmother, and they loved hanging out together watching movies, playing cards and attending church functions. Semajay was always adventurous, never a dull moment when she was around. She was very caring, loving and had a contagious laugh and smile with a beautiful dimple that would light up any room. Semajay “loved-to-dress-to-impress;” her favorite color was red, and her unique swag was proof of her confidence. She was always the life-of-the-party, or as her peers would say, “she was lit.” You could never wish for a more loyal friend. Semajay was loved by all who crossed her path. While her life here was short; her time here was lived to the fullest! On October 14, 2020, at nineteen years of age, Semajay Z. Smith transitioned from time to eternity joining in eternal life her father James; her maternal uncle Marcus Jr.; maternal grandfather, Marcus Sr.; paternal grandfather James; and maternal step-grandfather Robert.
