~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Your life was a blessing; your memory is a treasure You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ronald was born Tuesday, April 4, 1933, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of Philome H. McKamey Brannock and James H. Rowland Sr. Ronald was a graduate of Steelton High School, Class of 1951, where he was a member of the football, track & field teams and had a passion for playing the trombone. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was most proud of his military service during the Korean War. As the first Black Drill Instructor Private First Class (DI PFC) for the Marine Corps, he held that position for the Officer Candidate School (OCS) at Quantico, Virginia, and Twentynine Palms, California. He married the love-of-his-life, June Loretta Trice on April 3, 1954. He was a federal government employee at New Cumberland Army Depot and retired there with thirty-seven years of service. In addition, he served in the United States Army Reserves and retired with over twenty years of military service. Also during this time, he owned and operated Clean-Up Janitorial Service, and he especially enjoyed his relationship with the men and youth he employed in the community. Ronald was a member of The First Baptist Church of Steelton from the age of twelve. During his tenure with his home church, he served on the Charles Donahue Male Chorus and as a former Trustee. In his eighty-fourth year, while at home in Steelton, PA, after a long battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, Ronald Eugene McKamey entered eternal life December 4, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Philome H. McKamey Brannock and James H. Rowland Sr.; his wife, June Brookin Trice McKamey; and his brother, Raymond L. Washington. He leaves to mourn a brother, Charles Alfred Washington (Eleanor) of Camp Hill, PA; sister, Juanita Jones of Philadelphia, PA; three children, Duane Eugene McKamey Sr. (Cynthia) of Hebron, MD, Victor Ira McKamey (Stacey) of Steelton, and Elizabeth Lynn McKamey of Steelton; four grandchildren, Duane Eugene McKamey II of Hebron, MD, Duquesne Freeman-McKamey of Steelton, Delano Eugene McKamey (Karen) of Rockville, MD, and Halston McKoy (Dajan) of Philadelphia; two great-grandchildren, Kyleigh Drew McKamey and Duane Eugene McKamey III; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Always giving God the glory, honor and praise, Ronald was a beacon for his family and the community. The enthusiasm of his song, his daily word and his warming smile will be missed by us all.
