“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose” Mrs. Lula Mae Overton of Harrisburg, PA, peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at 100 years of age. She was born in Carthage, North Carolina, to the late John Lichia Carey Womble and Ella (Blue) Womble on August 9, 1919. She was the widow of the late Robert L. Overton of Harrisburg. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Curtis, Guy, Joseph, Marcel, Jasper and James Womble; sisters, Lucille and Clara; and son, James R. "Jimmy" Turner. Mrs. Overton was a former member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Harrisburg, PA, where she served on the Senior Usher Board, the Deaconess Board, the Willing Workers Club and was a past superintendent of Sunday School. Later, she joined the Baptist Fellowship Church, Harrisburg, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Winston D. Palmore and again served on the Deaconess Board. She was also the most senior member of the church. Her years of employment were highlighted by her time working as a sales representative for the Avon Company and a sales agent for the renowned North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company where she received many citations for outstanding service. She enjoyed helping and serving others, watching TV game shows, talking on the telephone and giving good advice. Mrs. Lula Mae Overton leaves to cherish and honor her legacy: her sister and brother, Flora Alice Luke of Philadelphia, PA, and William Womble of Virginia (respectively); son, Frank A. Turner of Harrisburg, PA; as well as six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and a host of other family members and friends. Lula Overton’s words to live by were, “Take one day at a time and trust in God.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Family Acknowledgement The family extends heartfelt appreciation to all who have helped to ease their grief.
