May 4, 1972 - July 24, 2021
Lamar Montez Jones, son of Connie Jones and Michael E. Wright, was born Thursday, May 4, 1972, in York, PA. From birth, he was affectionately known as Marty, the name given to him by his maternal grandmother, Ruth. Marty was a good baby with a very distinct cry, and as he grew, he became a curious little boy with a quiet spirit. As an only child for thirteen years, he was very comfortable by himself, but shared many funny moments with his cousins, DeMont, Michelle, Monica and a small group of friends. Starting in McKinley Elementary School with three or four of the “fellas,” the friends’ group grew and matured to include brothers, cousins and even girlfriends. Those friends became infamously known as BKP, and each and every one of them Marty considered his best friends forever. As a teenager, Marty became a big brother, and he often helped care for his baby brother, Shar-Ron. Marty completed his formal education from elementary through high-school in the York City School District. As a young man trying to find his way in life, Marty worked several jobs in the York Area. At the age of twenty-one, Marty received one of the best gifts ever—-he and his high-school sweetheart, Tamika Jamison, were blessed with a baby girl, Mar-Kaila. From that very moment, Marty’s purpose in life became clear. Mar-Kaila, his only child, was the apple of his eye. He cherished his daughter and always strived to do his best to make sure she knew he loved her unconditionally. In 1999, Marty moved to Columbus, OH, with his cousin DeMont. He found work at Worthington Industries, a world-leader of pressure tanks and cylinder suppliers. Several years later, Marty returned to York, and accepted employment with York International, Inc., before it became Johnson Controls, working in several different positions over the next eighteen years. Marty loved football and was a super-fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Marty would travel to see the team whenever he could, and he fulfilled a lifelong dream when he traveled to Dallas to watch the team play in the hometown stadium. Marty also loved spending quality time with his family, watching movies and tending to his two giant-sized fish tanks and their aquatic occupants. On Saturday, July 24, 2021, Marty departed this life joining in eternal life his paternal and maternal grandparents, his father, an uncle, an aunt and a cousin. Marty was especially saddened at the loss of his grandmother, Ruth Elliott, his aunt, Gail Hensford, and his cousin, DeMont Scott. Marty is survived by his daughter, Mar-Kaila Jones who will remember her father as joyful, full-of-life, very headstrong and a wonderful man; his mother, Connie Jones; stepfather, Jerome Stokes; his brothers, Quinn Wright and Shar-Ron Weathers; his sisters, Celene Wright-Molake (Alon) and Celeste Wright (Kristi); niece, Kaleigh Weathers; his uncle, John Jones; an aunt, Becky Kinard; two cousins, Monica Brown and Michelle Sipe (Vidal); his former wife, Tamar Smallwood; his fiancée, Sheir Ritter; as well as a long list of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends who will forever treasure fond memories of Marty. Lamar Montez Jones, aka “Mart LaRock” will be sadly missed by all who loved and cared for him.
