John Joseph Manigault was born Sunday, August 21, 1932, in Harrisburg, PA, son of the late Joseph F. Manigault and the late Beulah (Grayson) Manigault. A graduate of the former William Penn High School, John pursued higher educational endeavors at Harrisburg Area Community College where he received an Associate’s Degree. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. Upon completion of his military tour of duty, John returned to the states proficient in speaking three different languages. John’s employment and professional path included employment at the former Homestead Air Force Base, Middletown, PA; retirement from Dauphin County Transportation; and lastly, YMCA’s Marcus Garvey Program where he taught the youth Black History. He was united in Christian fellowship with Bethel A.M.E. Church, Harrisburg. John’s community and civic affiliations included American Legion, Post 733, serving as Past Commander and District Commander, State of Pennsylvania; Chosen Friends 43 DDGM of International Freemasonry; and Alumni of William Penn High School Tigers. John served as Treasurer of the Laurel Towers Action Committee. He resided at Laurel Towers for the past twenty years and developed many longtime friendships while acquiring many extended family members. John was a seafood connoisseur. He loved to travel to Maryland; he would just say, “Let’s go.” He really enjoyed his lobster, crabs and shrimp. Among his other hobbies and special interests were sharing his wisdom with his children and grandchildren, listening to jazz, dancing, playing pinochle, bingo, travelling, hunting and fishing. As a result of sharing his fishing expertise, many of his grandsons became great fishermen. A self-sufficient, great-thinker, John was always formulating a master plan to generate revenue. At his Harrisburg home, on Sunday, November 28, 2021, John Joseph Manigault departed this life at eighty-nine years of age. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jayne Anne Manigault. John leaves to mourn and fondly remember his life two sisters, Ora Manigault (eldest) and Beulah Bass, both of Harrisburg, PA; brother, George Manigault of Philadelphia, PA; daughters, Denise Manigault, Joanna Palmer, Joy Carter, Monica Harden (Mike Wilds), Lisa Harden, Frances Lopez; sons, John Palmer, Jonathan Palmer; his second wife, Marie Manigault, and her children whom he helped to raise, Eddie Harbison, Chris Harbison, Vince Harbison, Robert Harbison and Harriet Harbison. John’s life will also be lovingly remembered and cherished by his sons and daughters (in-love), Stephen Tysinger, Annette White, Stacy Myers, Brian “Julio” Belicki; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, godchild, Trina McDade, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
