Dona DiSanto, 88, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Monday, March 2nd, 2020. Born in Mount Jewett, PA, on August 31st, 1931, she was raised in Camp Hill, PA. She was the second of three children born to Frank Lester and Marguerite (Canfield) Lester. In 1956, she married Alex A. DiSanto of Harrisburg, PA. Dona attended the Camp Hill Schools, Pennsylvania College for Women (now Chatham University) in Pittsburgh, and completed her post-graduate studies at the Sorbonne University in Paris, France. She worked for AMP (Aircraft Marine Products) in Harrisburg. She was the personal assistant and interpreter for Mr. Walker, traveling the world to many business meetings. She embarked on her second career when she married Alex A. DiSanto. She devoted her life to raising her children and helping the community. Dona was a substitute teacher at Paxtang Elementary School and Herbert Hoover Elementary School. She was a longtime docent at the Pennsylvania State Museum in Harrisburg; volunteered for many years at the East Shore Area Library; and was never far from her "Book People Unite" bag carrying all of her supplies. A lifelong supporter of the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra, she was highlighted as a “Guest Conductor” for one of the Summer River Barge Series. Dona always had a kind word for everyone she met and quietly helped many people throughout her life. She was a voracious reader all of her life, never far from her beloved books. In her spare time, she loved to garden, travel the world, and most recently, dote on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dona was preceded in death by her parents, sister Shirley Burns, and recently her husband Alex. She is survived by her brother, Wally Lester; her children, Alex Jr. "Primo" (Mary Ellen), Julie (Ted Amberman) DiSanto, Senator John (Maria) DiSanto, Mark (Dr. Susan) DiSanto; her grandchildren, Nicolas (Vanessa), Christopher, Hannah, Natalie, Alessandro and Bianca DiSanto, Kellie (Kurt Hahner) Szabo, Laura (Trevor Brown) Szabo, Alexandra (Travis) Kreiger, Alex Szabo; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Elizabeth, Tibor, Caroline, Everett, Gabriella, Lorelai, John; and many nieces and nephews.
